 Important Information

Cancellation Policy

If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, please provide 24-hours notice.  If you miss a session without cancelling, or cancel with less than 24-hours notice, the full amount of the session will be due.

Is Counselling Covered by OHIP?

Private counselling is not covered by OHIP, although it may be covered by workplace extended health insurance if you have coverage for a clinical counsellor.  Many extended health plans cover counselling services provided by a Registered Psychotherapist (RP).  Please check with your employer or insurance company to verify that you will be covered.  If you do not have coverage services would be paid personally.

Are Sliding Scale Rates Offered?

Invigorate Counselling does not offer a sliding scale.  However, I can provide my registration number with the College of Registered Psychotherapists (CRPO) for your extended health coverage through your employer or insurance company.  Local non-profit agencies in the area may be able to accommodate an ongoing sliding scale, as well as offer some free walk-in sessions.  Invigorate Counselling does not want financial constraints to impact access to counselling services.  Should finances be a factor please discuss during consultation or within sessions to aid in finding an appropriate solution.

Methods of Payment

Payment is made via interac etransfer.  All session fees include HST. Payment is due on the day of the scheduled appointment.  If payment hasn't been received for more than 2 consecutive sessions, the next appointment will not be booked until the balance has been settled.

What to Expect From a Therapy Session

I work primarily from an Emotionally-Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Solution-Focused approach.  Depending on the needs of the client and the presenting concern I may focus on using one of the models or an integration of multiple models.  I have experience using other types of therapy/models as well, and may utilize those when clinically appropriate. These models share similarities in their approach to counselling. They are all client-lead, and client-focused models.  This means that clients determine what is and isn't important to them, particularly when setting goals.  I tend to highlight strengths, resiliency, and hopefulness within session.  There may be times when sessions can become emotional.  It is natural to sometimes feel a slight decrease in energy following a highly emotional session.  I strive to create a safe, inviting, and nonjudgmental therapeutic space.

How Long Does Each Therapy Session Take?

Each session is typically 50 minutes in length.  This is to allow time between sessions. Sometimes couples or families may be seen individually for part of the sessions, if it is deemed to be beneficial.

What Do I Need to Prepare for My First Session?

At Invigorate Counselling all therapy sessions are provided virtually.  You will need a computer or tablet and reliable internet access (the video platform can be used with a mobile phone, however it is recommended that the "do not disturb" is turned on if using mobile to ensure minimal distractions during session).  In addition to the technical requirements to engage in online therapy, you will also need to ensure you have a private and quiet space when in-session.  If privacy is difficult to ensure please discuss so an appropriate solution may be found.

It is also recommended that each client has a personal and private email address to use for paperwork and scheduling needs.  If you currently share an email address with another person it is recommended you create a new account to be used during therapy.

I Don't Live in Ontario, Can I Still Do Therapy with Invigorate Counselling?

Each country, province, or state will have their own regulations regarding psychotherapy services.  In Ontario psychotherapy is considered a Controlled Act and there are strict specifications for education and registration in order to conduct psychotherapy.  I am a member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).  Membership with CRPO allows me to provide therapeutic services to those residing in Ontario only. Therefore if you are not currentling living in Ontario I am legally unable to provide therapy.  If you are a current client and are moving out of Ontario, part of the transition/closing process would include aiding in finding a new therapist, if applicable. If you are not a current client you will need to research local therapists in your area. Psychology Today as well as the local regulatory board membership directory are usually good places to start looking for a therapist.
